Walking

Of all the fat in the body, belly fat is often the most difficult and the last to go, but sometimes, even with dieting, or eating on a calorie deficit, you can find that you’re losing fat everywhere except your belly.

And if you’re anything like me, you’ve been on the internet a lot, IG, Ticktok, and all, and you see a lot of these influencers giving you tips on some exercises you can do to lose belly fat, and yet your stomach doesn’t seem to budge.

You’ve tried it all, but you look in the mirror and it’s still there, you can’t even put on that skimpy dress or unbutton your shirt at the beach because you don’t feel attractive. You’re nearly frustrated, so what do you do?

First, get this, there are a ton of reasons why you’re not losing belly fat, but have you tried walking?

You’re probably thinking “walking? Can you lose belly fat by walking?”

Yes!

Contrary to popular opinion, walking isn’t just a sport done by people who aren’t financially stable, although it does have economical advantages.

Nevertheless, owning a car, or bike or being capable of affording an uber or taxi for any trip you wish to make isn’t a healthy reason to ditch walking entirely.

I can hear you saying “come to my aid then! How can I lose belly fat by walking?”

Be patient and keep reading!

How Does Walking Help Lose Belly Fat?

I once heard an analogy on how walking is an effective weight loss exercise from a video on Facebook.

The speaker (can’t recall his name) said it was like a lorry or a car, the longer it’s driven, the more fuel it burns, so the longer you walk, the more calories you burn.

Although you can’t exactly spot-reduce fat, and walking isn’t the most strenuous exercise, so it may not seem as much, however, a review was done on 40 years of studies on exercise and belly fat. The review found that only walking for 20 minutes daily can reduce belly fat by about an inch in 4 weeks.

That doesn’t seem like much, but if 20 minutes can give you an inch less of what you have in 4 weeks, imagine what you’ll have in 4 weeks if you walked for an hour each day.

How Can You Lose Belly Fat By Walking?

1. Stay Consistent

To lose belly fat by walking, the key ingredient is to stay consistent. You can’t lose belly fat if you walk today and give up tomorrow. Consistency doesn’t only mean walking daily, it also means increasing your step count every day. What that means is if you walk half a mile today, try hard to walk a mile tomorrow.

2. Walk in a Fasted State

Although you can walk at any time of the day, the most suitable time to walk to lose belly fat is in the morning when you haven’t had anything to eat or drink, that way your body burns stored fat or excess calories for energy, instead of relying on or whatever meal you’ve eaten already.

3. Increase Your Pace

Not only your step count is important if you want to lose belly fat by walking, but also the pace with which you walk. If you’re always consistent in a particular pace, your body will soon get adapted and comfortable, so you’re no longer working out many calories.

4. Include Other Workouts

Yes, walking can help you lose belly fat, but if you’re only working, it’ll take more time than you think to lose it, but by mixing it up with other workouts, your belly fat journey gets better and faster.

5. Eat Right

The way you eat can also affect how fast you lose belly fat. Eating more fruits and vegetables, drinking more water, eating in smaller portions, and walking daily, gives you more than a shoe into losing belly fat.

Takeaway

Sometimes, crunches, planks, and other abs exercises don’t cut through belly fat, although walking is not the most strenuous form of exercise to lose belly fat, it’s however a very effective way to lose it, and by staying consistent and mixing it up with other forms of exercises, you can lose belly fat by walking.
